Characters and traffic

In other to create jobs government results in creating state traffic agencies. Their duty is to create
revenue for the state by fining those who disobey traffic rules. In the bid to create revenue, they have been saddled with the responsibilities of enforcing law and order on state roads.

States like Lagos, Oyo and Kaduna (states I am aware of) have put these into good use. However, these traffic agency place their men on target which if not met may hinder their salaries from been paid.

Most Nigerian drivers do not obey traffic rules, most of them do not have the licence to drive in other
words, they have not been tested by the appropriate authorities to certify their road worthiness, most cars should not be on the road because the exhaust from these cars are life threatening.

If your particulars are not complete or you default in using seat belt and you are fined by the state, the
appropriate thing to do is to pay up the fine. Now, the lesson learnt is: before you leave your house make sure your papers are complete, endeavour to service your car by visiting an auto mobile mechanic when your car is due for one, check the engine oil, and oil filter.

Remember to obey traffic rules, do not over take when the traffic light is coordinating traffic, horn when need be and make sure your head lamps are working.

These traffic agencies are meant to put Nigerians in order; rules do not work in this country except it is enforced with sanctions following it back to back. Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Agency (KASTELA) should learn from Lagos State Traffic Management (LASTMA) and Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority on establishing rule and enforcing order in a more professional way.
